I finally lost the plot with my crappy BeBox today (after 2 years, so I'm clearly either overly patient or overly stupid) and bought a NETGEAR DGNB2100 in anger, hoping that it would be similar enough to the DG834X so that the excellent dummies guide would work.
It did, but there are a couple of extra steps which I thought I'd share: 1. Start with an ethernet connection to the router and set the TCP/IP properties of this network connection to 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server address automatically' 2. Don't bother with the install CD - it won't detect successfully (or, at least, didn't for me). Make sure everything's plugged in, turn the router on and then browse to: http://www.routerlogin.net/basicsetting.htm This is important because it bypasses the 'wizard' which didn't work for me - default username & p/w are admin / password. 3. Follow the instructions in the dummies guide for the D834GT (although at step 3 I just went straight to manual config by clicking th 'No' radio button): http://www.beforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8214 4. When it's complete and you have an ip address etc, go to the following page: www.routerlogin.net/CA_HiddenPage.htm Select 'Disable Configuration Assistant' and 'Apply' - this stops the 'wizard' hijacking you every time you want to browse anywhere. That worked for me - hope it helps somebody else! |
