Default O2 white box (II) 2 bridged issues

Hi All,

I have from O2 one white box (II) which came with my BB pack over a year ago. In order to wireless bridge I bought another (I assume) identical O2 white box. I think I have set them both up as instructed - I'm using http://beusergroup.co.uk/technotes/index.php/WDS as a guide for this.

I see in this it says (amongst other things) that :-
1. First make sure that both access points (or routers) are on the same channel and have WEP encryption set to the same key. -- done that

2. You also need to make sure that the slave BeBox has DHCP turned off and that it is on a different IP address to the "master" bebox. -- I can't see how this is done on the O2 white box - any help appreciated.

I assumed that my internet connection could just be accessed via the wireless bridge and through the "slave" O2 box, but when this second box is on no internet connection is possible either wired (from slave) or wireless. Any ideas?

Thanks, Roy

Default O2 white box (II) 2 bridged issues

Hi All,

It appears that the internet connection was working (wirelessly at least) until I connected the slave box via the ethernet cable direct to the laptop and then it all stopped again - even after the ethernet connection was removed. Is it likely to be this temperamental in future? What cause this? Is it something to do with the boxes ip address?

Well the internet connection did work again once the slave box had been reset, but this is not really practical if this problem happens whenever a wired internet connection is added to the box. I wonder if this would happen also when a laptop (that has an Ethernet cable connection) is turned on or off?

Also anyone got any idea how do I set the IP address as different for each of the two boxes, and how is DHCP turned off on slave box? I can't see these options on the O2 white box menus, or am I being thick... again?

Rgds., Roy

You should be able to do it from this screen (make sure you are logged in as SuperUser)

Thanks browni for the screen shot.

I see there are two sets of ip addresses here - I assume both have to be changed, is that right? and the part at the end of the line ie. /24 - do I have to change that too - what numbers should I change them to? would for example 10.0.0.139 and 192.168.1.255 be ok?

I also note from the guidance notes (see next line) that "Use DHCP Server" needs to be de-selected - I assume I have that right?
"You also need to make sure that the slave BeBox has DHCP turned off and that it is on a different IP address to the "master" bebox."

My trials in changing the default 192.168.1.254 to another ip address always makes the box inaccessible afterwards, when trying to connect to it obviously when using the new ip address allocated to connect (like 192.168.1.255) - why is this, should this change the gateway ip address too?

I'm a bit lost again. Thanks for the help.

Many thanks,
