Why do people use Twitter?

Thanks for this great forum. This is my first post to the forum and I wonder what you people think.

Why people use Twitter? What motivates people to use Twitter? Any ideas? It’s about news or comments?

No idea why people use it and I know of no one in my circle of friends or family or work colleagues that has used it or has any interest in using it

It's just website of text messages, can't get excited about that personally.
